In the fifth week of the Malaysian House of Commons meeting, the government will discuss whether to install Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems on all highways. According to the order document on the parliamentary website, some lawmakers will inquire about the efforts of the Ministry of Engineering in improving the toll payment system during the Q&A session to ensure a seamless experience for road users.
Kuala Lumpur's Deputy Minister of Public Works, Datuk Sri Abdullah Manmohammad, stated that in the upcoming multi lane free flow (MLFF) toll system to be implemented by the government, wireless radio frequency identification (RFID) and automatic license plate recognition (ANPR) systems will be integrated to make toll station traffic smoother. He stated that the toll road currently has 416 RFID channels, and understands that the number of RFID channels allocated to some toll stations is uneven. So that's why we need to implement a multi-channel free flow toll system, and we will also add RFID and automatic license plate recognition systems inside to make traffic smoother and more efficient
He stated that the Engineering Department has also conducted a detailed investigation into Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and found that many countries are using multi-channel free flow toll systems, which have good effects. In fact, we have studied many foreign examples to find the best way to implement toll stations, but it is still in the research stage. At the same time, we will also conduct a trial run next year to confirm the most suitable system.
