  • RFID is being used for the first time in frozen embryo management in UK

    Jan 31, 2024
The Hewitt Fertility Center recently completed a three-year study on the potential risks of artificially cryopreserved eggs and embryos after fertility treatment. Research has found that artificial cryostorage for in vitro fertilization (IVF) is still prone to potential failure points. So, the Hewitt Fertility Center in the UK found the American company TMRW. TMRW is a life science company that utilizes RFID technology to automate in vitro fertilization laboratories. For TMRW, this is their first UK client. This RFID solution is called CRS, an automated system for managing and storing frozen eggs and embryos. The CRS platform consists of hardware and software, which can securely track, monitor, and store frozen eggs and embryos. With this solution, frozen specimens can be automatically recognized and tracked through RFID UHF passive tags on the specimens, readers for capturing tag IDs, and automated robots. Specifically, this RFID solution can assist in the management of frozen embryos in the following areas:   Tracking and monitoring   RFID technology can provide real-time, highly automated tracking and monitoring capabilities, allowing medical institutions to understand real-time information about the storage status, location, and temperature of embryos. This is crucial for ensuring the safety and quality of embryos.   Improving efficiency   Through RFID UHF technology, medical institutions can quickly and accurately track and record the storage and management process of embryos, reducing manual operations and interventions, and improving management efficiency.   Risk reduction   RFID UHF technology can reduce manual operations and interventions, reducing risks caused by human errors or negligence, such as misstorage, retrieval, or temperature anomalies.   Enhanced security   Through UHF RFID technology, medical institutions can monitor and track frozen embryos in real-time, reducing the risk of embryos being mistakenly taken or stolen, and enhancing the security of frozen embryos.   Improving data analysis capabilities   By collecting and analyzing RFID Tags data, medical institutions can better understand the storage and management of embryos, optimize management processes, and improve management quality.       This solution enables clinics to remotely monitor specimens at any time. The TMRW report states that compared to artificial specimen management and storage systems, CRS helps reduce potential failure points by 94% and helps reproductive clinics safely expand to meet the growing demand for patients. Previously, we mentioned in "RFID is said to be useful, what if it is in a liquid environment of -20 degrees Celsius?" that RFID UHF passive tags can still be read normally in low-temperature liquid environments, which is actually a very excellent performance that many recognition technologies cannot achieve.

  • RFID UHF readers and tags application

    May 26, 2023
RFID UHF (Ultra High Frequency) readers and UHF passive EPC Gen2 tags have a wide range of applications across various industries. Here are some common applications of RFID UHF technology:   Supply Chain and Logistics: RFID UHF technology is used for efficient tracking and management of goods and assets in the supply chain. UHF RFID passive tags can be attached to items or containers, allowing for seamless identification and tracking throughout the entire logistics process. UHF long/middle/short readers placed at key checkpoints can automatically detect and record the movement of tagged items, enabling real-time visibility and enhancing inventory accuracy.   Inventory Management: UHF RFID tags and readers streamline inventory management processes by providing accurate and automated item identification. By placing UHF passive tags on items and using UHF RFID readers to scan them, businesses can quickly and accurately track inventory levels in warehouses or retail stores. This enables improved inventory accuracy, reduces stock-outs, and optimizes inventory replenishment.   Retail and Point-of-Sale (POS): UHF RFID technology is used in retail for inventory management, theft prevention, and improving the overall shopping experience. UHF passive tags can be attached to individual items or product packaging, allowing for rapid and contactless scanning at checkout counters. This enables faster transactions, reduces checkout queues, and helps prevent retail theft by triggering alarms if a tagged item leaves the store without being properly purchased.   Asset Tracking: RFID UHF passive tags are used to track and manage assets such as equipment, tools, or vehicles. By attaching UHF passive tags to assets and deploying UHF long range readers in strategic locations, businesses can monitor asset movement, optimize asset utilization, and improve maintenance scheduling. This helps reduce loss and theft, improves asset visibility, and enables efficient asset tracking and auditing.   Manufacturing and Production: UHF RFID technology is used in manufacturing and production environments for process control, supply chain visibility, and quality assurance. UHF passive tags can be attached to work-in-progress items or components, allowing for real-time tracking and monitoring of the production process. UHF RFID readers placed at different production stages can capture data on component status, location, and process flow, enabling improved production visibility and traceability.   Access Control and Security: UHF RFID cards or tags are commonly used for access control systems in buildings, parking lots, or gated areas. By issuing UHF RFID cards or tags to authorized personnel, access to restricted areas can be controlled and monitored. UHF RFID readers placed at access points can quickly scan the RFID passive tags and grant or deny access based on the authorization level.   These are just a few examples of the applications of RFID UHF readers and tags. The technology has a versatile range of uses and can be tailored to specific industry needs and requirements.
